5 Staple Foods Every Girl Needs in Her Pantry

nutrition Feb 05, 2018

Let’s talk about healthy food. Not everyone knows how to eat healthy or where to even start. I was actually one of those people who didn’t know a thing about eating healthy.

Growing up, I was very active but looking back, my nutrition was probably anything but healthy. We were taught that loading up on carbs the night before a big game was the norm and I mean the not so healthy carbs, simple carbs.

I didn’t know the difference between white pasta or wheat pasta and to be honest, I don’t even know if gluten-free was a thing in high school. It probably was, but growing up in a small town I could’ve just been oblivious.

Years later after researching, learning, certifications and a simple trial and error, I knew what foods my body needed and didn’t need.

If you’re in the same place I was and you’re not sure where to start, I want to share with you 5 staple foods that I keep in my pantry.

Keep in mind, these are things that work for me! It may be different for you, but it’s a place to start and go from there. I also included which brand I use or where I get my groceries as a reference. Your health and fitness journey doesn’t just end when you reach a specific goal. You keep learning and changing and improving.

5 Staple Foods to Keep in Your Pantry:

1. Protein Powder

(Vital proteins or Ideal Lean)

You can use protein powder in just about anything! Okay, maybe not everything but I like to use it in my oatmeal, smoothies, pancakes or waffles (depends on the day) to give me that extra 20g of protein.

2. Gluten-free Oats

(from Trader Joe’s)

Okay, now these you can actually use in a lot of different recipes. Anything from oatmeal, smoothies and even breading to protein cookies, bars, and more!

3. Almond Butter or some kind of nut butter

(from Whole foods)

I like to use this with my oatmeal and smoothies as well as on a piece of toast, with an apple or banana, or even by itself for a little something sweet.

4. Rice or Quinoa

(Whole grain)

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, you name it. These can be used in about any meal you want. Always a good staple to have on hand.

5. Flax Seeds and/or Chia Seeds

(from Whole Foods)

I always have some kind of seed if not all of them in my pantry. I love adding these to my breakfast recipes for an extra boost.

So there you have it! 5 staple foods that I always keep in my pantry. They can be used with anything and are always nice to have on hand.
